Impact of On-Board Hybrid Energy Storage Devices on Energy-Saving Operation for Electric Trains in DC Railway Systems

To improve the energy-efficiency of transport systems, it is necessary to investigate electric trains with on-board hybrid energy storage devices (HESDs), which are applied assist traction and recover regenerative energy. In this paper, a time-based mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model proposed obtain energy-saving operation for different constraints HESDs, such as their capacity, initial state charge (SOC), level degradation. The integrated power flow based on train longitudinal dynamics, split line impedance discretized linearized, aiming minimize net consumption (NEC). results reveal that HESDs higher capacity does not necessarily lead rate; lower or excessive SOC could undermine potential; considering long-term operation, degradation Li-ion battery will influence trains, well result in an rate ranges from 41.57% 31.90%. practical data Guangzhou Metro Line 7 were simulations, enhanced practicality effectiveness method.
